Introduction of a Novel Image Search Engine Technology

It may set him on the road to a commercial product that can compete against such giants as Yahoo and Google, both of which offer image search engines. Oddly enough, most available search engines currently look at the Website address of an image and associated text, but they are NOT searching the actual image, so that's the problem Hengda Cheng Ph. D is solving.

Who is who?

Hengda Cheng Ph. D
– Author of 250 technical papers, is the co-editor of the book, Pattern Recognition: Algorithms, Architectures and Applications, and the editor of four conference proceedings.
– General Chairman of JCIS (Joint Conference of Information Sciences)
– Dr. Cheng has been listed Who’s Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Communications and Media, Who's Who in Science and Engineering
– Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University

In the latest image search technology, Dr. Hengda Cheng had led his research group proposed a novel color space which can describe the images more effectively, and a novel dominant feature which can represent the images more accurately and efficiently. (This last technology was announced at the 10th International Conference on Computer Science & Informatics in June 2007. http://www.jcis.org/track/csi/callforpaper.asp) It is used that as a critical point for developing the new kind of image search engine which improved the accuracy up to 95% from the world high of less than 70% and searching speed improved 100 times from the world speed in 2007.

His hope is to have one image search engine running and open to the public as soon as possible. Revenue would be generated from many channels:
- By paid advertisements which could list out at the left side and top of the page in response very much accurately to a certain image search, much better to the advertisers on targeting potential consumer group the way Google generates its earnings today or even better (Actually there are many ways from Internet marketing perspective).
- From supporting the wide market needs of varieties of industrial applications for their image based search engines. (i.e. real estate house matching, merchandise image matching, dating service face and figure matching, micro calcification matching used in breast cancer auto detection system, object image matching for military battle field and etc.)

The next step will be to build an image search engine prototype, in partnership with investors, business partners taking the first step toward establishing a startup company, selling the intellectual property out or any possible ways of transferring his IP into capital. In one word, to commercialize his technology in anyway may be found to serve the public needs.

Dr. Cheng is currently also looking for new project contracts in his various focal areas for his research project and commercialization*.

- Criteria-based image search engine.
- High Performance System for Detecting Microcalcification Clusters in Mammograms Using Fuzzy Logic and Wavelet (attachment).
- Real-time Pavement Distress Detection System developed in conjunction with the U.S. Transportation Research Board and the Utah Department of Transportation. Results of the product evaluation concluded that this system is faster and more accurate than competing products.
- Biometric Security related applications: This emerging market presents substantial opportunities for the algorithm technology in facial recognition, fingerprint and retinal scanning.
- Etc.
